Last night there was a concert and some football was played too.
I wasn't aware of Rihanna's pregnancy when she appeared on screen, but I wondered why she was wearing baggies clothing that hid her figure.
Soon after, the rumors were confirmed, and I watched her performance with renewed awe and respect.
Look at what this amazing woman can do!
And, shetruly is amazing. Pregnant people are amazing.
Pregnant peoplehave been kicking ass and taking names for generations.
Pregnant athletes participate (and win) in elite competitions.
Pregnant actors film action sequences and make it look effortless.
Pregnant journalists endure dangerous situations to capture the important stories of the time.
Pregnant doctors work long shifts, and, in some cases, deliver babies of other moms-to-be.
It is incredible to think about how growing a human inside of us has never slowed women down.
I believe we should honor and celebrate all that a pregnant person can do.
And, I also think we should celebrate those who choose or have to pause during pregnancy.
We should celebrate those who are able (because I know it isn't always a choice) to step back from a busy career.
We should celebrate those who say they can't handle the same activities they did pre-pregnancy.
Pregnancy is an intense experience that everyone handles differently. Many no longer have the option to participate in their daily activities in the same way they did prior to becoming pregnant. Others may choose to slow down for their well-being.
As long as they are following the guidance of their medical provider, every pregnant person should be free to make choices for their lives that feel right for them.
For some, that may mean performing for millions during the Super Bowl Half-Time Show. For others it may mean spending most days resting and watching reality TV. Both are OK.
If you are pregnant and intend to follow through with your pregnancy, please, take care of yourself and know you are doing a lot, even if you feel like you're not doing much at all.
